This is a request for input from all Skype users that use a JAWS
version older than 7.10. It's also an indication of how anyone can
register with me the JAWS version they use.
There remain enough accessibility problems in Skype 4 beta that I am
again considering use of the Skype API, though probably on a limited
basis. It is not possible to use the Skype API very well before JAWS
7.10. Accordingly, it would help me to know how many people are using
a JAWS version older than 7.10.
Please type Ctrl+Shift+W from within Skype to go to the Skype scripts
home page. This will open the home page in your browser and will also
place in my web logs some information, including your JAWS version.
Way back when Chris Nestrud was doing the Skype scripts, Chris set up
that little trick, and I found it useful enough to preserve. I can
use this information to figure out how many people are using the
scripts with various JAWS versions, which script versions they use,
and which Skype version. In fact, anyone who wants to make sure I
notice a certain JAWS, script, or Skype version is in use should type
Ctrl+Shift+W from Skype now and then. I tend to look through web logs
rarely, but if I'm thinking of removing support for something, I tend
to look there first to see if it will affect anyone.
Thanks much to all.
For the curious btw, here's what gets sent to me when you type
Ctrl+Shift+W, besides what goes into any web log anywhere:
- JAWS version.
- Skype script version.
- Braille display name if any (scripts r577 and later).
- Skype program version and last-modified date.
- Windows OS version number.
- A flag indicating if SkypeWatch is running (r485 and later).
- Skype user ID, so I can detect duplicates.
