Hi all,
I hail from Northeast PA and have been meaning to subscribe to the list for
quite awhile.
I recently purchased the Linksys CIT300 Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit.
I've gotten the software installed, plugged the USB base station into the
computer and into the wall. I'm running the latest versions of Skype and Jaws.
Oh, I do not have the land line cord hooked to the base because I don't have a
land line. I'm hoping to use this phone primarily for Skype Out calls and as a
backup on the rare times when my cell service isn't working.
So, I've started up everything, but I can't seem to make a Skype Out call
with the phone. I make sure the handset is fully charged, then powered on. I
press 00, 1, the area code, and the number I am calling, and then press Talk.
I've heard you can do it either way, and I've tried both, but with no luck.
When I press Talk, I hear dead air, the phone dialing, then more dead air.
Should I be hearing a dial tone first? I believe I can safely assume things
are connected properly because I can page the phone from the base station. I
installed the software and hooked up the base on my Laptop and desktop PC,
(both running XP and the latest versions of Jaws and Skype) and had the same
outcome with both machines. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
