Are you working under XP or Vista? IF Vista, you need to go in to the property sheet of the .exe file. From there, click the compatibility tab and select for XP service pack III. Next you need to run the .exe as administrator. You'll find this in the compatibility tab also. Keep this in mind. you only need to do this once. after you've authorized it for Skype, you can return to the compatibility tab and turn run as administrator off.
