My information is that the removal of the WinKey is permanent and
forced by Microsoft, because Windows 7 apparently forbids use of that
key for shortcuts.  This annoyed me too, but it is apparently a
Microsoft rule and, as such, will probably affect a number of
applications.

Your problem with the text input window going invisible is addressed
in version 4.1a of the scripts, which I just posted today and
announced on this list.  That particular change failed to make it into
my release notes though.
