I don't understand your questions very well, but for your first one,
it sounds like you're pressing Enter from the Contacts, Conversations,
or History list when trying to read chat messages. You must have your
Skype set up to dial when you press Enter there. That's an option in
Options, and the other choice is to have the conversation open instead
so you can read it. Either way, you can open the conversation by
pressing the Applications key, which brings up a Context menu, and
choosing "Send IM."

Btw, if you're running scripts, Alt+2 will not switch to the
Conversation list but will try to read a chat message. With scripts
running, the conversation list is reached with Ctrl+2.

The "All Other Contacts" entry in the Contacts list is provided by
Skype itself, and it acts somewhat like a node in a TreeView: If you
arrow right on it, the rest of your otherwise hidden contacts will
appear below it. Arrowing left on it will again hide those contacts.
Unfortunately though, arrowing left on a contact that appears below it
will not move back to the "All Other Contacts" entry, as would be the
case in a real treeView.
