I hope no one misreads this as harshness, but I need to say this
even though there is that risk.

Some SkypeWatch users are installing SkypeWatch by adding a line to
default.jss. This is what I call the "old way" of doing it. The "new
way" involves creating a new default.jss file to load Skypewatch.

Up until now, I have built in support for both ways of loading
SkypeWatch. However, a recent event made me notice a problem with the
old way: If you update JAWS, such as via Check For Updates, the old
way will effectively cause you to run an updated JAWS with obsolete
default.jss code. This in turn can cause any number of
difficult-to-diagnose problems, up to and including complete breakdown
of JAWS functionality.

Given this problem and the fact that there is now an automated
installer for SkypeWatch using the new method, I am announcing at this
point that the next Skype script release will no longer support the
old method of running SkypeWatch. The old way only works now because
I added code to force JAWS to keep pinging Skype to ask if something
had happened, since in the old way, Skype is unable to tell JAWS this
directly via events. This "pinging" approach is not as reliable and
cannot be made so.

Though my decision is not prompted directly by this week's JAWS 11
security update, I will mention that what I am doing will also have
the effect of making sure that any such JAWS emergency updates in
the future actually install and function correctly for SkypeWatch
users.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause people, but since the
new SkypeWatch installation method is now automated, I'm not expecting
that to be much inconvenience anyway. If you installed SkypeWatch the
old way, the way to update to the new way is now as follows:

1. Delete default.jss and default.jsb from your user folder. Not
shared, but user.

2. Run Hrvoje's SkypeWatch installer, which will build the new
default.jss and set everything up for you.

Finally, to those worried about crashing their systems using the new
way, that problem should not happen now that there is an automated
installation program. Such crashes were always caused by accidents
during manual setup of the new default.jss file, which is why the now
infamous procedure on my web site is riddled with stern warnings. :)
