This is a problem that I also experience with 4.2. Jaws keeps losing
focus of the contact list. The only way I'm able to get it back is to
hit control-1. I wonder if the pop up ads from Skype about buying
headsets and making calls causes it to lose focus. For sighted users
this version is probably fine. For blind users it's a royal headache.

No matter what I tried, I could not get access to the contact list. It

with various forms of navigation including the Jaws cursor, but could

no mention of all contacts.
In the view menu, contacts was checked, but it did little good.
Guessing the best solution here is to uninstall 4.2 and install 4.1.
Also the check marks for sounds were not read, so had to guess at them.
Fortunately when tested, all events worked as desired.
They apologised for putting me to trouble, but really, when there are
people
that could be asked, I don't know why they don't do it. It offered an
upgrade, so she blindly took it, including the stupid Google Chrome,
which I
hopefully did successfully get removed.

Sorry Jim, none of these key commands work for me. I'm using Skype
4.2
and scripts 42C as well as Jaws 10. When hitting Alt-1 through alt-0
in
a skype chat only says, not in a conversation window. Hitting
control 4
only says, the window can't be found. Also, hitting control-shift-O
says, unable to get the contact list. Hitting command key O C says,
unable to get the contact list. I have it set for compact view. I'm
running windows Vista home premium. No clue why this is happening.

hi jack I am afraid it is just you here. should not ask a question

I use this feature every day with jaws and window-eyes with no
problems.
ok in the contact list find some one you want to chat with. now hit
the
context key.
select send im.
this will put you in the edit box for chatting.
type the message in the edit box.
if some one start a chat with you hit control 2 to move to the
comversation
list select that person hit the space bar now hit control 4 to move
to
the
edit box.
to read the recent chats press alt+1 threw zero to get this in a
vertual
view double click the key.
to read the list using skype press control 5 and then use the arrow
keys.
it works like a dream.

Greetings Jack and list. If you're used to Skype 3.x, and you've
upgraded
to version 4.x, you may find it easier if you enable Compact View in
version 4. This will ensure that all new events, such as chats,
file
transfers or contact requests, still appear in a separate window as
was
the case with Skype version 3.
Press Alt+V to open the View menu, and press down arrow until you
hear
either Compact View or Default View. If you hear Compact View,
press
Enter to enable it. If you hear Default View, that means Compact
View
is
already active, and you needn't do anything.
To read chat messages using the JAWS scripts, press Alt plus any
number on
the top row of your keyboard while in a chat window: Alt+1 for the
most
recent message, Alt+2 for the next most recent, and so forth up till
Alt+0. If you press Alt and any number twice quickly, the entire
text
of
the chat will be displayed in a virtual viewer, from which you can
then
select text to copy to a different location if you wish.
