There are two installers: The so-called "new experimental" one, which automatically sets up SkypeWatch, and the older one, which doesn't. You only need SkypeWatch if you want automatic announcements of things like people signing in and out. I suspect you used the older installer. If you want the SkypeWatch announcements, use the newer one.
