I need a volunteer to help me test something. The volunteer needs to
meet all of the following criteria to be of help to me:
1. When you try to run the current Skype script installer, you get an
error and an error log, and the error log contains a line that looks
like this:
CScript Error: Can't find script engine "VBScript" for script ...
(the "..." means there may be more on that line.)
If you get an error but your log does not contain that text, your
issue is not related to what I'm testing and my tests would not work
on your machine.
2. You are running a recent enough JAWS version to allow me to tandem
into your computer, and you are ok with my doing this. I run JAWS 14,
so anything 14 or older that supports tandem is ok.
3. You are ok with either a Skype call or a phone call during the
tests so I can explain what I'm up to. I would not allow someone to
run my computer without me around, so I don't ask this of anyone else. :-)
4. You are ok with the fact that I will be typing commands into a
DOS-like console window (cmd, for those who know what that means).
The goal of my test is to figure out (1) if I correctly understand the
error I quoted in item #1, and (2) if rewriting the installer
assistant, currently in VBScript, in Javascript would be of any use.
That's a major effort, so I don't know if/when I'll manage even if I
find out it might work; but it will help to know if it would fix the
problem.
Anyone meeting these criteria and wishing to help with this should
send me an email containing a Skype ID or phone number I can call and
a range of time in which I can do so. I am on Eastern time, so please
either give me Eastern time and call it such, or name your time zone
so I can figure out what 2:30 really means. :-)
Thanks much. This error keeps cropping up now and then, not often per
se, but often enough to annoy me.
