Hi! It's possible that Ace may have some good reason for not being able to upgrade JAWS, so I would suggest that, if the new JAWS scripts don't work for written chats in Skype with JAWS versions older than 12, they should be read without using the scrips. This is definitely possible, as I am an NVDA user so I don't have the luxury of JAWS scripts, but I can still read written chats within Skype itself. Here's how you read written chat messages in Skype without using the JAWS scripts. First of all, you need to open the right chat window: to do this, find the contact you're doing the written chat with, in either your contact list or recent chats list, press the Applications key, arrow down to Send IM, then press Enter. You will most likely land on the edit field where you would type a message: from here, press shift+tab, hopefully only once, to where it says "Chat content list", and you can arrow up and down this list to read written chat messages, the last of these being at the bottom of the list. This list will also include when calls are started and ended, but all the chat messages between you and that particular contact will be there too. I hope this helps!
