http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/05/0125245

[0]Anonymous Coward writes "The headline just about says it all on this
one. A physics grad student in the UK has come up with the mathematical
formula for how to flip a pancake and have it land correctly back in
the pan. The [1]BBC has the details."

Australian Federal Police Raid Major ISPs
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/06/0018248

pflodo writes "The Australian (newspaper) has an article about Telstra
the major Australian ISP and other 'declined to name' ISPs that have
been [0]raided by Australian Federal Police to 'seek the identity of
particular subscribers' in relation to their activity and files stored
on the ISP's servers. I imagine they will eventually raid some domestic
homes and make a scapegoat of some unfortunate teenagers."

Working as a Game Tester
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/05/1639224

DaytonCIM writes "SFGate.com has a great story on the real [0]life of
game testers. 'Life is not all fun and games, though. It's all games --
with little time left for sleeping or eating, at least during the busy
months before Christmas. The longest week he has logged was 106 hours,
and 60-hour-plus weeks are typical in deadline crunches, he said.'"

Rambus Destroyed Evidence In Anti-trust Trial
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/05/2152230

Marasmus writes "CNN is reporting that memory-chip maker [0]Rambus has
been found [1]guilty of destroying evidence which was 'critical' to the
anti-trust case brought by the U.S. government. Interestingly, the
Judge has denied the [2]FTC's request to move on to the penalty phase
of the trial. Destruction of evidence in an anti-trust case normally
yields a forfeiture of trial, but Rambus 'will have the burden of
    proving its innocence" instead.'

The Future That Hasn't Arrived
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/05/2031241

[0]jonerik writes "[1]MSNBC has [2]this article on an exhibit starting
this week at Philadelphia's [3]Lost Highways Archive and Research
Library. Entitled [4]Radebaugh: The Future We Were Promised, the
exhibit focuses on the artwork of the elusive A.C. Radebaugh, a
commercial illustrator whose works promised us a glittering, shiny
tomorrow from the '30s to the '50s; a helicopter in every garage,
massive streamlined cars, vacations on Mars - in short, pretty much
everything we didn't get. The exhibit collects examples from
Radebaugh's portfolio, auto designs for Chrysler, DoSoto, and Dodge,
ads, and 'Closer Than We Think!,' a syndicated weekly comic strip drawn
by Radebaugh. I want my jetpack, dammit!"

What Fruits Will Reduced R&D Bear For The U.S.?
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/05/2023200

lucabrasi999 writes "Here's an interesting [0] commentary from Mike
Tarsala at CBS.Marketwatch.com regarding R&D spending by U.S. companies
as it compares to overseas firms. It compares today's US tech firms to
the Big Three Automakers of the 70's, while saying the overseas tech
firms are similar to the Toyotas and Hondas of the 70's. In other
words, US Tech firms are about to be taught a lesson in global
capitalism. I think Mike is 100% correct. What do you think?"

Toshiba To Show Laptop Fuel Cells at CeBit
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/05/196256

war3rd writes "According to [0]The Register, Toshiba has finally been
able to build a fuel cell for laptops that they will unveil at [1]CeBit
next week. The fuel cells are expected to last approximately 5 hours
and are compatible with existing lithium-ion batteries. Form factor
remains the only issue. The trick is that they use the water by-product
from the cell to dilute the methanol source as it enters the
[2]reformer, and are therefore able to store higher concentrations of
methanol in the cell. My only concern is how quickly can they get this
    to market?"
