As requested inworld here's some of the details of my kernel that was crashing: Fedora core 6 nvidia gefore 6100 linux 2.6.22 from kernel.org in menuconfig: kernel hacking > use 4kb for kernel stacks instead of 8kb
Other OpenGL apps of various varieties run fine, SL crashes the whole system and causes it to become completely unresponsive to btoh local console and network. Video output gets corrupted and my mplayer instance in the background sounds like a broken record. Only solution is a hard reboot. This kind of hard crash in linux is something i've not seen since back in the late 90s and appears quite rare (my configuration as described above would be quite rare however). I would not want to put in the time to investigate this myself as the problem has been resolved with an update, but would be interested if others have noticed a similar problem. -- Please avoid sending me Word or PowerPoint attachments.
