I will be hosting a thesis on high performance tree structures for SQL. I have read in slide-dev useful comments about the works of Celko and Tropashko and followed the links. I also studied the paper describing the implementation of XML trees in the eXist database. I believe that high performance trees would be very important in Slide and I think I would start from a portable implementation of the continued fractions approach and an imintegration with slide. Before I plan the project, I would like to know what has already being done and what is being planned in order to attempt a useful contribution.
