Hi!

I believe that Jackrabbit and Slide can coexist. After all, Jackrabbit is an
API implementation, while Slide implements the WebDAV protocol. It is true that
Jackrabbit has a server component that implements the WebDAV protocol on top of
JCR, but last time I checked, that proved to be quite a hassle. There are a lot
of incompatibilities between how WebDAV expects things to work and what JCR
provides in its API.
Also, Slide is much much older.. And fully featured using the WebDAV standard
(no need to do "propietary" things like Jackrabbit does because JCR doesn't
specify many things, including user authentication).

So, therefore, Slide and Jackrabbit do have different goals, even though they
do overlap as you pointed out correctly. Maybe in the future, when JCR-2 (JSR
283) is done and Jackrabbit provides a compliant WebDAV layer, we have to
re-evaluate. This still gives us a few years though. JCR (JSR 170) took almost
four years to be released and JSR 283 is only six months old.

Bye!
