Performance Problem

Hi:

I have a Folder   TEST with  500 sub folders, each containing 100 files, all
of same size 400 bytes. It is strange that it takes only 40-90 ms for the
first 2 thousand files and afterthat the time is gradually increasing. After
reaching 5000 files - 900 ms , 10000 files it is taking  4000-7000 ms and it
continuous to grow.

I have been trying to a find fix, but i couldn't get any clue. 

Can any suggest/help me .
