Hi!

I do find this an interesting point though... The possibility to get a
'mixed' or 'union' view, of a contentstore and a preexisting directory or a
webapp would be interesting. In particular 'mixing' a webapp (also in a .war
file) and the contentstore would be of interest - the webapp would provide
an immutable base structure, and functionality, while the contentstore would
version the site content. Is something like this realistic?

Besides the contentstore there is a nodestore (and others) that contains
the information on how your content is organized. The nodestore isn't
populated with the information about your pre-existing files.
Also the nodestore implementation defaults to
slidestore.reference.MemoryDescriptorsStore which of course gets recreated
on reboot.
