Thank you for getting back to me. I have some odd requirements and at this
point would like to ask dev level questions due to hardware limitations.

I used to run WebDT.org and wanted to redo the work of someone who made a
rocking image using SliTaz like a long time ago. Ron85 on WebDT.org got some
YouTube videos posted of things I thought not possible and using Slitaz.

First the hardware is AMD Geode. If I go newer than syslinux 3.7.-3.8 it won’t
boot. Hardware is using a 40 pin ata flash chip that is proprietary. Cant swap
it out without clipping pin 40 to make generic horizontal pata flash modules
work. I see slitaz4 uses syslinux 4. I am happy to report that I have Slitaz 3
in vm and working. I can’t seem to get https working so getting packages and
following scratch docs get me a few steps in before hitting walls.. I’m not
looking at Tazlito and modifying core.flavor. Just reinstalled version 3 in VM
as I could not get to work. Thank you again!

Would it be possible to spin current with what looks to be 3.16 kernel with
syslinux 3.73 for example? I would like for ACPITOOL application to work and I
think it stopped working around kernel version 3.? Hoping I can use it as it
allows suspend on ancient hardware.

I also need to recompile kernel and bring in a few packages to compile from
source. Namely recently (8mo ago) patched geode driver from free desktop.org. I
can go with a vendor supplied driver for the touchscreen but if you switched to
rolling release I would rather go with input attach (serial TS) and
xinput_calibrator. I need an xorg.conf.d directory for that, tho. Not sure if
it will be there. Just spent a month getting frustrated with puppy.

In the kernel I would like to make it geode specific and need to enable a
/input/misc/atlas_btns.ko for the hardware buttons/dpad to work. Mostly full X
stack and of course evdev active. If I want to compile the geode driver from
free desktop I will need a /dev/cpu/0/msr register available as well.

The target hardware for the masses (still tons of these on eBay) will be the
GX2 platform. 433mhz with 256mb ram and GX video (XAA accel). Runs at usb1.1
speeds. I do have a tablet coming with LX800 hardware/512MB ram and an 8GB
internal drive. Imagine a 433mhz running with Vesa driver and a hungry vendor
supplied ts driver? If I use vendor ts driver I need to align with either
ubuntu/centos/fedora/suse/debian with respect to kernel version and X version.
If you have rolling release that I can make use of can I lock these in your
package manager or should I go input attach route allowing for kernel and x to
upgrade without messing with TS driver? Xinput_calibrator uses evdev and if the
Xorg.conf.d directory is there I can make a conf for calibrations to be
persistent.

Sorry for the book but if you were me which direction would you go? GO rolling
and roll back syslinux? OR stick with version 3 and probably deal with no
bluetooth support but have fast basic functions? Either way which is my best
tool to build? Scratch method which has out of date docs or using Tazlito to
modify the flavor? ITs taking a long time to get used to the terminology,
please excuse if I get something wrong.

Thank you for offer but I have questions I need to ask to understand how to
answer…. Thank you in advance and thank you for keeping this project current
active and fascinating!

Daryl
