Watching the slon log with -d 4 will show groups of 100 rows at a time being 
processed.

And with that big a transaction, you really ought to be able to see disk 
activity on the master from the transaction being prepared, or disk 
activity on the subscriber from the individual deletes being processed..

Obviously, it won't start until the original delete has been committed (in 
case you haven't done that).

Slony will definitely handle it, it just might take a while.  And you'll 
want to vacuum full the sl_log_? tables on the master after Slony has 
deleted those 8 million rows from it.
