Dear Steve,
I've excluded the slony schema from my dump and this did it!
Excluding the slony schema from the pg_dump allowed replication
lag to stay low (under a minute). (Even though my disk subsystem was
getting hammered - 100% utilization, per iostat, to answer Ben's
question.)
