There has been a conversation going on "internally" about the issue that fully-connected clusters wind up opening up quite a lot of database connections that are of somewhat dubious utility.
Attached is a proposed patch to the documentation talking about this. Reading the material from the patch should be pretty viable. Comments welcome...
