To register a society: <ol type =1>
<li>Applicant obtains application form (by post or personally).
The form must be completed and signed by the proposed President,
Secretary and Treasurer (Or by analogous officers of a
preparatory or interim committee).

<dt><i>Does a fan club or any particular groups (eg, company
club) need to be registered under Societies / Companies
Act ?</i><br> <dd>Under the Societies Act, a "society"
includes any club, company, partnership or association of
10 or more persons, whatever its nature or object but
does not include : <ol type=a>
<li>any company registered under any written law
relating to companies for the time being in force
in Singapore; <li>any company or
association constituted under any written law;
<li>any trade union registered or required to be
registered under any written law relating to trade
unions for the time being in force in Singapore;
<li>any co-operative society registered as such under
any written law;
<li>any mutual benefit organisations registered as
such under any written law relating to mutual benefit
organisations for the time being in force in
Singapore; <li>any company, association or
partnership, consisting of not more than 20
persons, formed for the sole purpose of
carrying on any lawful business that has for
its object the acquisition of gain by the company,
association or partnership, or the individual members
thereof; or <li>any school or management
committee of a school constituted under any law
regulating schools for the time being in force in
Singapore. </ol> <p>The
following are examples of groups that need to be
registered as "society" : <ol type=1>

<li>Sports / Recreational clubs <li>Old boys�
association <li>Cultural groups
<li>Racial / Clans associations
<li>Trade / Professional groups <li>Social / Welfare
organisations <li>Citizenship consultative
committee, residents committee
</ol> <br> <dt><i>Is
there a registration number for a registered society ?</i>
<dd>There is no registration number but each society will be
assigned a file reference upon submission of application for
registration, which the society should quote in all
correspondences with ROS and with other agencies.
<br><br> <dt><i>Are football or sports club allowed to
operate billiard or jackpot machines ?</i>
<dd>ROS does not issue any licence for societies to operate
billiard or jackpot machines. For the installation of jackpot
machines, application for permit should be made from the
Commissioner, Estate Duties. Furthermore, without a licence
from the Public Entertainment Licensing Unit, the society�s
activities can only be open to members.
<br><br> <dt><i>When should a society hold an AGM and
when must the returns be submitted?</i> <dd>Society should
hold its AGM in accordance with the provision in the
society�s constitution. Society should submit the annual
return and audited accounts within one month of the holding of
