Just to add on, the old discussion forum was practically
unsupported by us and yet people got what they want from
the forum. When we were busy handling other stuff, the
old discussion forum took on its own life, without any
supervision at all.
When we provide the _infrastructure_ for support, we are
cleverly utilizing the resources that does _not_ belong to
us. There is little cost involved. Yesterday, I tried to gather
all the articles Singaporeans had done for SLP
(http://linux.com.sg/news/review.shtml), and I found out
one shocking thing, most of the articles were not even written
by us. Most reviews were written by someone else.
If we provide the proper infrastructure from which contributions
can be _easily_ made, new materials for publication will come in
by itself. You have got to trust me on this, just last month we
gathered several reviews, Red Hat review, vmware review,
ATM on Linux came in unplanned. That was why I was so
hard up to get the forum working last few weeks, it was not a
technological decision, but soemthing more important than that.
People can come to SLP and get free support, the more the
merrier. Then by virtue of the hits, I can gather more revenue
by putting banner advertisements. Then we can get more money
to sustain our operation and expansion.
The only path obvious to us now is
advertisement of our website, we must write articles
to the press about linux and about our website to get people
acquainted with our website.
The next thing to do after that is to mirror linuxberg. linuxberg
contains good description on software and a good place for
new linux users to visit to gather software. If that is done,
our path is more or less cleared.
