I use exceed on a daily basis and am thoroughly pleased with its
performance. I usually only use it to spawn rxvt's to use console apps but
on the odd occasion I have needed to use a window app and in each case it
has worked without problems.
I have no experience with the other two you mentioned, though it may be
worth pointing out to you that there's a free X server called MIXserver
from TNTlite products(?) which may be an option if you value price over
performance.
MIXserver has its own "desktop" (a maximised window basically) which X
programs will appear in and has TWM as its integrated window manager (ie.
you can't get rid of the bloody thing). I wasn't too impressed by
MIXserver but you may find that it does all you want. It's not a big
download so it's worth a go I guess.
I prefer exceed as it does not require its own "desktop" but pretends that
apps from the remote unix box are simply other windows programs (ie. they
appear in the taskbar and can be iconified etc - everything normal windows
applications do). I highly recommend it.
Alexander.
