Hi All,
When I play MP3 files they all sound like a babbling brook.
At first I didn't notice this was a problem as the first MP3 files I
found and downloaded from the web were some technomusic. Later, after
downloading some classical, I found that they too sound the same -
subtly different though and quite pleasant ;-)
The machine is an Alpha system with genuine SB16 sound card - plays CD's
fine.
I have compiled and installed the MP3 player: mpg123-0.59r
Compiler setting was for an alpha: make linux-alpha
One warning:
audio.c: In function `audio_fit_capabilities':
audio.c:133: warning: `i' might be used uninitialized in this
function
(There was also a make linux-alpha-esd for the EsoundD which I dont have
the header files for.)
Installation was no problems. It runs with this output:
music:$ mpg123 Mel_20David-Music_20for_20the_20Millenium-Wartorn.mp3

The sound from the speakers is like a babbling brook. I have tried
several of the commmand line options as 1st I thought it might just be
playing too fast - it is an Alpha - but it still sounds the same slowed
down. Jill thinks that the byte order or something might be wrong.
The files play fine with the same sound files and same mpg123 version on
an Intel at work.
I had a look at the www.mpg123.de site but saw nothing about possible
compile probs or FAQ if things don't work. Has anyone heard this sort of
thing before? Any ideas?
