Depends on whether you are overwriting the original blocks or not. If you
are putting the encrypted data on new blocks, the old blocks will still
be on the free list for a short time and if so you might as well just
truncate the file as before. Also disk recovery techniques claim to be
able to read layers of recording on the magnetic film. Still I imagine
this level of paranoia is beyond what the original poster had in mind.
