OK

Make for yourself one almighty DOS BOOT DISK,
containing nothing more than the necessary drivers for
the CD-ROM, MSCDEX.EXE, HIMEM.SYS, FORMAT.COM,
FDISK.COM and EDLIN or EDIT.

Boot the sucker.

Fdisk the Hard Drive and blow EVERYTHING away.

Create a 2Gb partition, FAT, and mark it active.

Verify you can read the NT CD-ROM before rebooting.

Kick it in the guts.

When it reboots, FORMAT C:

>From the DOS prompt, type LOCK C:, and answer YES to
the question.

Go to %cdrom%\\I386, and run WINNT /F /B /X (WINNT /?
will tell you what they mean).

Don\'t bother with the \"create a boot floppy set\" crud.

Tell NT to install on the existing C: drive, which is
FAT (I\'ll get to the dignificance of this later).

Answer all manner of inance questions regarding IP,
DHCP, you inside trouser measurement, etc.

After all is done, remove floppy and reboot.

At this point, you have a working NT server with a 2Gb
boot partition (you can make it 1Gb if you really want
to, but no smaller).

NT will not allow the boot partition to be larger than
4Gb, and less than 1Gb is asking for trouble.

OK - Now go into Start/Programs/Administrative Tools
(Common)/Disk Administrator. You will see a poor man\'s
attempt at a graphical representation of hard drive
geometry.

Highlight the unpartitioned space, and create an
EXTENDED PARTITION, wich can be further sub-divided
into drives of varying sizes. Personally, I create one
BIG sucker as NTFS (it MUST be NTFS).

Install his DB on the D: drive, and you should have a
goer...

Email me off-list if you need more info..
