Hi all, The SLUG Linux AudioFest is less than a month away now. There'll be talks on lots of aspects of audio on Linux including how to set up a soundcard, how to write programs which do useful and fun things with audio, how to do midi stuff on Linux, demos of nifty audio programs, etc. Registration is now open. You can look at the stuff below or you can see the same info at the slug website http://www.slug.org.au/ There's still room for a couple more speakers so let me know asap if you want to speak (it gets you free entry!). Bill ---- February 12th, 2000 - AudioFEST AudioFEST topics will include some or all of: Introduction to audio on Linux (configuration of sound drivers, etc) MIDI Music playing (mp3, etc) Music composition tools Audio recording Networked audio How to write programs that control audio hardware (eg using OSS, ALSA) Demonstrations of nifty audio playback/capture/processing applications Demonstrations of commercial products for Linux Sound detection Sound analysis Sound synthesis Speech recognition/generation Registration is now open. Please register as it helps to know numbers to organise seating/tables for computers, etc. The registration form is below. What: Talks, demonstrations and discussions on how to set up sound-related things under Linux and how to do things with them when they're set up (eg writing simple programs that do things). Also there'll be some talks giving examples of more specialised applications. More details of topics to be covered is above. Date: Saturday, February 12th, 2000 Time: 10am - 4pm (BYO lunch) (NB: This isn't like an InstallFest where you just pop-in - people will generally stay for the duration, also if you're bringing a computer, come at 9 - 9.30 am to set up) Location: Building E6A, Room 133 (same as the VideoFest), Macquarie University, North Ryde, Sydney Cost: $5 (SLUG members), $15 (non-members), free (speakers) (note: it's not too late to be a speaker... include info on the rego form if you want to give a talk) (note: profit goes to SLUG) Bring: Lunch, Computers (Tea, coffee, small snacks will be provided) Getting to Building E6A or E6B: See the map of Macquarie Uni at Press Here for the big picture or the map for fine details of parking and building entry. If you've come by car, come in the Herring Road entrance (the one near Macquarie Centre), take the first left and follow directions to CSIRO (the visitor carpark is on the inside of a V made by the two wings of a building). If you've come by bus, just follow directions for the E buildings and you'll find it (on thebig-picture map, you can just see the bus stops for to-city buses as the numbers 1-6 down the central road and those for from-city buses as a similar sort of thing a bit further down). Parking: Parking at Macquarie Uni is $4 (payable in machines around the place) - - parking people - - do check on the weekend and it's a $60 fine. There are about 12 CSIRO visitor carparks (which are free) next to building E6B for the first ones who get there.
