That's because Netcomm actually made the old smartmodem modems, rather
than just rebadging someone elses crappy attempt at a modem.
The SmartModems (M11F, M34F, etc) were one of the best modems available
at the time. My M34F still chugs along happily (current call is up to 43
days!). My M11F hardly ever fails to connect or drops a call (gets used
about 3-4 times a week).
