What does the chip say is it a reaktek card if I assume a line in
conf.modules like
alias eth0 ne2k-pci
then modprobe eth0
would work replace ne2k-pci with your card if you know it (the modules are
in lib/modules/2.2.12-20/net/*modules*.o
