Well I did computing in high school for four years, starting in Year 9 in
1975.  We learnt BASIC, Fortran, APL, Algol, and enough of Cobol that I
never wanted to see it again.  This was in Canberra.

Luxury.  When we were using BASIC, we used mark-sense cards which were
taken to CCAE each afternoon by our teacher, where they were run on a
Burroughs 6800 (anyone remember Burroughs?).  It used to take three days
to get our output back.  And of course, no-one ever writes a program that
runs first time, do they?
