Hello Sluggers
I have a Calder OL1.3 system that has five SCSI hard disks in it. One
of which has started pinging (read head must be misaligned or
whatever).
I'm trying to determine if its replacement is urgent (is is the root
disk or just old bbs files?) by seeing what causes the pinging to
stop.
So umount each in turn.
Oh, and swapoff each, as well, in turn.
Initially this seems to work, but this morning the pinging is back.
that was when I remembered that three had swap on them
but still the pinging continues.
So I'm trying to find out why this is so?
By pinging continuing, it could carry on for 15 minutes after. we are
not talking a few seconds.
So, can anyone explain what the scsi bus/whatever is doing to a
unmounted and no swap hard disk that keeps the heads moving?
