Somehow you managed to delete your PATH which is why you can't find any
programs. You must have been mucking around with .bash_login or .bashrc.
Probably you set PATH to nothing there. Put this in .bashrc:
PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin
That will get you going at least.
