Hi, this is a bit off topic.... sorry. I've got a Linux box at home working as a gateway and a friend brought his box over, plugged it into the network and as soon as we setup the networking and rebooted.... his box started doing nameserver lookups for different irc servers...... and nameserver lookups for his isp nameserver. Apparently his email has dates set to the future as well - he doesn't use irc or icq. It looks like a virus/exploit, smells like one, but I can't find anything matching these symptoms at cert or ms but I seem to recall reading about something like this a few months ago..... friend thinks I'm making it up to make Linux look better (not too bright...) and still intends using his box unless I can show him it is a virus (bloody stupid actually).
