It works here locally,
I just tried ftp://anonymous:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and got joy (the local machine has anon ftp enabled).
I had to set up my browser to bypass the proxyserver for this address.
Also, it doesn't parse properly if you make the password (in this case)
[EMAIL PROTECTED] because the whole line would then become
ftp://anonymous:[EMAIL PROTECTED]@a.local.intranet.machine
which is rubbish.
For non-anon ftp, the browser might fail to make a connection if the
password contains characters which are not part of the set in the Web page.
Also your proxyserver or firewall may need to be convinced if you want to
use port 21 and not port 80 (whatever port you have set up in your browser
for ftp).
