I got this message when building a new linux box a few weeks
ago. It wasn't the latest hardware, compaq P133 with a 2 gig bigfoot.
The funny thing was it installed fine with no error messages,
then after the install was complete, using the same kernel as 
the one on the install disk, I started getting these messages. 

The fix for me was to recompile with the latest 2.2 kernel.

If you search deja.com and the linux kernel mailing list you'll
see this message pops up frequently.
