I just reinstalled RH6.1 on my PC because I had so many loose ends from
trying various experimental packages and also because I wanted to rearrange
my partitions.
I havfe been trying to get my dial-up to work without success. The system
recognises my modem on ttyS01, but when I try and dial using redhat's dialer
thingy or by using ' /sbin/ifup ppp1 ' as root, there is a moments pause
and then a lot of furious disk activity and the modem does not dial. I am
using pap and the password and dialup info is all set up correctly. A quick
look at tail -100 /var/log/messages shows the following (see below). Can
anyone tell me what 'modprobe: can't locate module char-major-108' means and
how I can fix it?
