I am trying to get Apache + OpenSSL to authenticate a user based on his/her digital certificate. The server seems fine: if offers to accept a cert from the browser. In Netscape, when presetned with the option, it reports there are no certs to offer the server. But, I've installed a Thawte and a Verisign personal cert in the browser. They are viewable via the security dialogue. Anyone have experience with certificate-based authentication using Apache on the server side and Netscape on the client side? I must be missing something fundamental here. Also, any web-based resources (FAQs,etc) on this topic would be most welcome.
