Slug trails...... Sent to some people at SGI ------------------------------------ Craig Warner from SLUG, and Grahame Kelly from SLUG meet up with several of you during the expo. I was a bit flat out and didn't have the chance. Grahame is getting involved with funding issues, probably through Linux International. What my direct concern here is with SLUG (Sydney Linux Users Group). In case you are not aware, we have 600 people on our mailing list, and about 100 attendees to our regular monthly meetings (curiously, not the same 100!) Our members range from complete neophytes through to quite advanced system admins, developers, and even kernel hackers. We characterise ourselves as enthusiasts. I have been thinking of asking vendor representatives along to one of our meetings, but have been a bit wary. The popularity of our talks is due to their informal nature and often technical input. Marketing insight is well recieved, but again well informed is the key phrase. Again, opinions that are not neccessarily company views are appreciated, the position of the speaker is easily interpreted. Our meetings are held last Friday of the month, this month the 31st. Perhaps rather than have an SGI speaker, it would be nice to have a speaker who happens to be at SGI? Anyway, please stay in touch. Most of our members are well aware of the efforts SGI is making with Linux and appreciate them. Like SGI, most of us believe this is a sensible business decision, for the long and short term.
