I believe this show is transcripted on to the ABC web site
for those that missed it.
There was an interesting section on how PC software was
never intended to be secure, and that there is NO software
or operating system available to make a PC secure.
The experts went on to talk about the cost of blue screens and
that modern pc's will be seen to slow down progressively and
expensively over the next few months (I couldnt quite figure
this.. something to do with 2 digit years).
The problem they foresaw was such that ALL pc's will crash in
a maximum of 73 days (I think that's what he said - I was
laughing too much to remember exactly). Of course, he went on,
everyone boots ones a month to prevent these problems ...
well? dont they?
(... runs of and checks... uptime 3 months since last power
failure... golly gosh, I'm on borrowed time!)
I have great respect for the science show and Robin Williams.
Maybe someone should suggest he do a segment on open source,
or linux.
(PS, forgive me if I got the "facts" slightly wrong.. I was
cooking dinner at the time I was listening)
