Actually, I don't really give a damn about their policy, I mean what're they
gonna do if I contravene any of it? Sue me for damage? HA! I'm a student for
godness sake!
Basically, I'm running all the services, telnet, finger, maild, ftpd,
basically everything, but I don't really worry because of what Bigpond can't
get out of me, rather I know myself that the upstream traffic will not be of
that unusual volume, so I'm really rest assured.
I think as long as your server don't hog up the bandwidth, they'll close one
eye, I'd GUESS.

by the way, anyone know the maximum bandwidth for Advance and Optus@Home
cable? Will it be of say OC-12, those rating type?

Hope that helps...

Regards,

Henry

| I have read the Acceptable Use Policy and the Terms and Conditions at
| http://www.bigpond.com/advance/announcement/info.htm and I agree they
allow
| servers on the volume based plans.
|
| But when I called Bigpond Advance and asked - they didn't know if I could
| run a web server on the cable service and resolve the IP address using an
| 'external' DNS. They suggested I call their Webaction group on 1 800 620
| 345. The Webaction chap understood what I was talking about and said
they
| would not allow it.
|
| Is anyone actually doing it?
|
| Regards,
|
| Richard.
