Yeah, the NIC that Optus supplies refuses to work for some reason. I have
managed to get it to appear in ifconfig but no packets manage to get out or
in. I just bought a cheap 10mbit one and used that instead and it worked
nicely. I havent really had much time to toy with it as I just disabled plug
and play on my BIOS and also the irq assignment on my USB as the ethernet
card seemed to want to use the same irq as the USB, as I thought I had an
irq conflict though no errors were reported. So I assume it is safe to leave
plug and play on as it seems to happily share irq's given I dont use the usb
port anyway.
Yes, dhcpcd works just fine with it.
The thing you need to do is "dhcpcd -h <your id number> eth<num>"
and you should be set. I havent tried dhclient yet.

Well, I finally got my cable in, and as soon as
the techs had gone and I was satisfied that
everything worked I swapped over the NIC onto my
RH6.1 box.
Bad stuff ensued, and as such I am seeking some
advice. Firstly, I remember a thread that
mentioned the NIC that Optus installed (the PCI
one) had problems running w/ later RH
distributions. If so, is there any way around
that? Otherwise, I have another NIC that came w/
a second have 'pooter that I got a hold of, so
that in theory would work, would it not?
Secondly, I am not getting a DHCP IP address
assigned. Will the standard dhcpcd that comes
with RH6 work, or will I have to download
DHClient.
Any help or pointers to a mini-HOWTO would be
appreciated
