Terry,
Use latex2rtf. I got it from the aarnet mirror, Redhat
contributions. It does a good job on most LaTeX files.
The other method that I have been using lately is to use
tth to convert to HTML. This is an excellent converter. The
only problem is that footnotes aren't *really* footnotes when
re-imported to Word or other word processors. I just delivered
a book manuscript this way.
