I'd like to nominate Anand Kumria for the position of Vice
President.
Anand and I have been heavily involved in promoting Linux through
our respective student organisations for the past five years. Anand
has been involved with the Programmers Society at the University of
Technology, Sydney since 1994, where he organised Installfests, gave
talks and otherwise advocated Linux. More recently he is known for
his organisation of activities for Debian in Australia, in particular
their presence at the Linux Expo. (Debian is a free distribution of
Linux maintained by many hundreds of volunteers around the world).
He is an active SLUG member and has given a number of presentations
at SLUG meetings over the past few years.
I organised many Linux activities at the University of NSW between
1995 and 1999, including Installfests, Linux information nights and
of course all-night (or all-weekend) long Linux Parties. Recently
I've taken part in CALU (1999), Linux Expo Sydney (2000), SLUG
meetings and the Video and Audio Fests.
We are each now out of university and using Linux professionally.
We are aware of the impact Linux is having on the IT industry, but
also mindful of its use in education and other areas. We hope,
through SLUG, to be able to continue actively promoting Linux and
encouraging the development of the Linux community in Sydney.
