No, that won't work on any system that I know. That's just part of the
name resolution system, and doesn't get used when ifconfig sets up
interfaces.
For SCO there is a GUI system ("scoadmin" rings a bell). Just go digging
through there until you find the TCP/IP settings for the network
interface.
