Just had a thought. What is the eeprom set to boot from? If it is not
set to boot from the correct disk and partition, then it won't auto
boot. This comes from having an smarter "BIOS".
If you don't know how to find out what it is set for, mail me and I'll
give you instructions. Also send me your /etc/silo.conf file too.
here's mine from a RH6.0 system:
timeout=50
partition=1
root=/dev/sda1
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.5-22
label=linux
read-only
