And here in lies the problem with software. Software licenses are like
pieces of art, buyer takes all responsibility. You cannot sue Microsoft
if their word processor trashes every word document on your machine and 
costs you billions, even if Microsoft advertise their product as a word
processor you take sole responsibility for determining that the software
is fit for the purpose you intend to use it for. You also only get a 
license to use the product, you cannot on-sell it with the second hand
computer.

The product protection that software companies enjoy is obscene! Any other
company producing any other product would have been slaughted by 
product recall costs.

Time the Government changed the rules such that software is sold like any
other engineered product.
