Howdy SLUGgers, I got this in my inbox tonight - a message from Joseph Morrison from e-smith reporting that some of our fellow SLUGgers have been hired to continue their work on e-smith. e-smith is way cool; it's easy to set up, does all the work of expensive gateway/fileservers (and more!), has a simple web interface, and runs our favourite OS on everyday hardware. This is really good stuff for organisations and schools with little to spend on IT. I've looked at version 3, and been using the verion 4 betas. It just keeps improving. Charlie says the updates coming out tomorrow will be even better... Charlie and Gordon started working with e-smith when setting up communications links in Dili for Oxfam International and Community Aid Abroad - http://www.caa.org.au/groups/IT/dili/ Congratulations all, and good luck! - Jeff ========== Hello everyone, We've had a flurry of activity here at e-smith! Although you'll be hearing more in the press over the next month or two, the brief rundown is that we have completed a US $3M round of investment. The lead investor in e-smith is Greylock (http://www.greylock.com) with Red Hat, Inc. also participating. We're incredibly excited about this development, as it gives us the resources to quickly build our organization and business, and capitalize on our technical leadership. In conjunction with this announcement, I'm also delighted to welcome Charlie Brady, Gordon Rowell, and Peter Samuel to the e-smith organization! As you doubtless know, all are terrific engineers. Charlie Brady is now the official maintainer of the e-smith code base. We're very excited that they have joined us! I'd also like to thank all of the participants in e-smith for helping making the product successful. We'll be working hard to keep the e-smith technology evolving quickly, and are dedicated to sticking with our open-source development model. Stay tuned for more news soon! - Joe ========== -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------------------------------- w: http://advogato.org/person/jdub/ i: 16341281 (jdub!) q: "She said she loved my mind, though by most accounts I had already lost it." -- SLUG - Sydney Linux Users Group Mailing List - http://www.slug.org.au To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe in the text
