Hi All,
I have an Xray diffraction program which runs on an SGI being exported
to a display on a Sun machine running Linux. The applications does not
get enough colours if using Gnome /Enlightenment on the Linux box but I
have got it to a usable state by using fvwm as the window manager (no
Gnome) and reducing the colours that fvwm uses. There is still one last
graphics screen that the aplication puts up which comes out black
instead of a gray colour - hard to see black atoms /bonds on a black
background.
Now some applications like Netscape hog all the colours and can be
installed with a private colour map (netscape --install-private). This
app does not have that option
but can I write a wrapper program which does hog all the colours? That
way when I call up my wrapper program its child, the diffraction
program, will have access to all colours.
The display is an 8bit display but I don't know the video mem size, prob
<= 1024k.
Gnome apps display 256 colours fine.
