It came down to having to do a hack in the D3 configuration. You would have thought that Pick would have had the grace to acknowledge that when they offer their product on a distro that has RAID as part of its core kernel, someone would want to use RAID. It seems that you have to do the same hack if D3 is running on Linux with hardware RAID. If anyone needs the gruesome details then they are welcome to ask.
