morning,
I was playing around lastnight with some Netgear 310's. Basically PCI 10/100
cards. Using tulip DEC chipset.
I have attempted to run two of them in the machine, my only problem is each
time I booted, the driver in the kernel would see them, but would not
allocate them an IRQ. I kept seeing IRQ 0 for them both.
I also tried to boot with only 1 in the machine, same thing happened.
In the process of doing all this I even managed to break my bootsector.
After some cursing I managed to get the machine working again, but went back
to my old card.
In the past I have used 3 of these cards in 1 PC with no problems. Although
it appears these new cards must be a newer revision. I think they said
revision D2 on the cards themselves.
Anyone care to share some tips on attempting to get one or both of them to
work. I am thinking I will install 1 of them again, and then tell the bios
that all my irq's are in use by ISA cards and thus should be reserved. Maybe
this might force them to use a left over IRQ. I tried to force the PCI slots
by assigning the PCI slot an irq but this didn't work. I suspect it kept
attempt to get IRQ5 by default.
See what information we can gather, then I will attempt round number 2.
